Members of the Yonkers Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon to the Bronx River Parkway northbound lanes, near the Sprain Brook Parkway split, when a car went off the road and landed in the river, prompting an emergency rescue.

A woman suffered a broken arm in the crash, and a child came out unharmed.

Police said that further investigation found that an Eastchester woman, the driver of the second car, which sideswiped the Jeep that went sailing into the Hudson River, was reportedly in possession of crack cocaine.

She was subsequently arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The woman - whose name has not been released - is due in Mount Pleasant Town Court next month to answer the charge. The incident remains under investigation.
